I’m 16, my period cycle is 55 days, is it normal?

I’m 16 and my period cycle has been about 55 days for the past year. First I didn’t think anything about it (mostly because I liked not having my period as often), but now i’m concerned that it might hurt me in some way… Like making me unable to have children in the future. So my questions are, is it normal at my age? If it isn’t normal, then what is happening? Is it something I can fix on my own or do I need to go to my doctor? And will it affect me having children in the future?

  1. Hi…
First of all you have to make a record of your periods start and end date for better monitoring about it…
Normally periods takes 21-35 days ..if they are regularly irregular then you should see a doctor for some check.. she may need to do U/S to your ovaries and uterus to check for Polycystic ovarian syndrome or any other abnormality…
    Regards

  2. hi dear..
at such young age, such periods are quite common as its just the start of your menarche and you are in very early days of being a woman, from a girl. This transformation is gradual due to the various hormonal changes that occur in your body with age. As you grow older, the interval between the periods should normalise. If you have family history of abnormal periods, then it may also affect your menstrual cycles. i suggest you to wait for another 6-8 months and see the changes that occur. If you have any symptoms like abnormal bleeds, prolonged cycles, then you can consult a gynecologist for sure.
But presently, i dont find any reason for you to worry. Thanks

  3. HI
55 DAYS INTERVAL BETWEEN THE MENSTRUAL CYCLES IS QUITE ABNORMAL FOR YOUR AGE. THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME UNDERLYING CONDITIONS LIKE PCOS OR DUB THAT NEED TO BE RULED OUT.
SHOULD NOT BE NEGLECTED. GET GYNECOLOGIST OPINION AND NECESSARY INVESTIGATIONS
