I started having a burning, uncomfortable pain in my right flank area?

Hello, about a year and a half ago, I started having a burning, uncomfortable pain in my right flank area, if i stood, it would be right at about where my elbow would fall on my side. Close to bottom of those ribs. It would come and go. Went to two doctors, both thought muscoskeletal. Put on Mobic. Didn’t help. Doctor then ordered ultrasound of upper right quadrant, and called only to tell me everything looked good, but had mild fatty liver, but not fatty liver disease. Also that I had gallstones. They then ordered Chest Xray (to see ribs) Everything looked good. I took it upon myself to see a gallbladder surgeon (doctor said it was up to me if I wanted to remove gallbladder) That was about 9 months ago. The pain went away, so I chose not to. Now, it seems every few months, it “flares” up. My question is, I want to be confident that it is nothing bad. The doctor seemed to make me feel like, if my gallstones were the problem I would be throwing up and have pain closer to middle of body, not only on the side. Do gallstones cause cancer? Should I have it removed? Can gallstones, cause pain in the right flank (toward side)? Thank you for any help and advice. I’m just scared.

  1. hi,
yes, gall stones are responsible for the pain in ur case.
If u are getting recurrent attacks, then u shud get it removed.
it wont cause cancer but will cause stones and cholecystitis

  2. Routine follow up with liver function tests and alkaline phosphatase is important , also I believe ur condition is irritable bowel syndrome , spastic colon
Is there any flatus or abd distention??

  3. Hi
Gallstones do not cause cancer, I need to know the stones size, also have you checked your appendix? Is there any sludge formation on the transabdominal ultrasonography?
This information can help tell you exactly what to do
    Good Luck

  4. Hi..
    Thanks for the query..

Do not worry, gall stones does not cause cancer, so do not worry about it..
If the problem is recurring then surgical management is the best way to get rid of it..
So better consult a Gastroenterologist and get proper scanning down following appropriate treatment..

    Hope this helps..

  5. In my opinion your stress is an indicator of an IBS so gases or bloating can cause frequent pain in the both flanks,
Gall bladder could not cause cancer.
Also the size of the stones matters so you should specify their dimensions .

  6. My follow up is I have had all function tests, everything ok. All blood work is ok. Is there anything at home I can do to relieve the burning?

  7. Try avoiding spicy foods, fatty foods ,caffeine, chocolates ,and try yoga ,meditation techniques ,also follow up regularly with the gall bladder USG.
    Get well soon

  8. Hi..
Talk to your doctor about taking Ursodial if it can help in dissolution of the stones..
Also avoid spicy and acidic foods..
Take appropriate rest and avoid exertion..

    Hope this helps..

  9. Also please can you tell the size of the stones and are there a single stone or multiple stones with sizes..

  10. Try antacids , and zantac one tab half an hour before eating
