I have rheumatoid arthritis, stopped taking meds, will I be OK?
I’m 38 year old female was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis about 3 months ago my doctor put me on prednisol 15mg a day whilst I was waiting for consultant appointment at the hospital 5 days ago i stopped taking the prednisol so far other than aches in my muscles I’ve been OK and not had any withdrawal symptoms does this mean I will be OK or can it take longer than 5 days for some symptoms to come out
YOU ARE NOT CURED COMPLETELY. ITS JUST TEMPORARY RELIEF. CONTINUE TAKING DMARD TABLETS
prednisol is an anti inflammatory which reduces inflammation temporarily but as RA is a auto immune disorder, its symptoms will keep coming up in near future. You need to take other anti rheumatic drugs to keep the disease under control. RA cannot be cured completely.
Yes it may take longer time to feel pain again, you have to stay on your medications as this is the nature of rheumatoid , remission and relapse , so you do not know when it is going to hit back….
Try hydrotherapy modalities and physiotherapy to stay as active as you can without harming your joints,,,,
