I am scheduled to go on mission trip to build a house, but I am pregnant, should I go?

I am 38 and just found out I am pregnant with my 4th child. I am scheduled to go on a short mission trip to help build a house in Juarez, Mexico, in 2 weeks, when I will be 6 weeks pregnant. I am in very good health and never had any complications with other pregnancies, but I realize that my age alone puts me at higher risk. Should I cancel my trip?

  1. Not only that but while that is one reason paint and other chemicals can cause problems. Its not suggested but in the end its up to you

  2. Hi and welcome to question doctors .com
If you are talking about an effort that will be done in helping building a house then this is a high impact effort that is not suitable for a pregnant woman specially in the first trimester as this may cause possible miscarriage..
You need to be careful and get good rest on this occasion.

  3. hi
though your health is good, initial 3 months of pregnancy is the most critical period as the embryo gets implanted in the uterus during this period. Maximum care and rest is needed during this phase and i suggest you should cancel the trip.
    thanks

  4. HI
IF YOU ARE NOT SCHEDULED FOR DOING ANYTHING HECTIC AND TROUBLESOME DURING YOUR WORK THEN ITS OK TO GO ON TRIP . BUT AVOIDING IT IF POSSIBLE SHOULD BE YOUR PRIORITY. THE BABIE’S ORGANS FORM AT THIS STAGE OF PREGNANCY AND CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN

  5. hello there
you should cancel your trip of course. if it was 2nd trimester, then it would have been safe to travel. but initial 6 weeks are critical and you should take adequate rest during this period

  6. Thank you for your responses. I was leaning towards cancelling, and after reading about the Zika virus, that sealed the deal for me. I am disappointed to miss the trip, but I feel it’s the right decision. Thanks for your help!
