Has gallbladder removed, ER surgery for herniated and obstructed intestine and a gastric bypass, hands now blue?

My mom had 3 surgeries in 35 days: gallbladder removed, ER surgery for herniated and obstructed intestine (she was throwing up fecal matter from the blocked intestine) , and a gastric bypass. She has had a very very difficult time with all of it. She is still sick from the hernia repair from Sept. she also recently has been getting sudden purple hands. We are worried about the purple hands, what could this be?

  2. Hi and welcome to questoondoctors.com
Purple hands may be symptom of many conditions, including peripheral neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, Raynaud’s phenomenon, generalized anxiety disorder or vitamin B12 deficiency. Purple hands may also be due to exposure to cold, but numbness or a feeling of cold is typical of most conditions associated with this symptom.
Is there any associated symptoms from those ?

  3. hi
this can be due to low oxygen content in her blood, that may be secondary to low hemoglobin levels.
    get complete blood count done.
start on hematinics. get cynmethemoglobin checked.
    thanks

  4. HI
THIS CAN HAPPEN DUE TO DECREASED ARTERIAL BLOOD SUPPLY TO THE FINGERS. ARTERIAL OBSTRUCTION NEEDS TO BE RULED OUT BY GETTING A ARTERIAL COLOR DOPPLER DONE.

  5. hello there
this doesn’t seem to be directly related to the recently performed surgeries . such blue discoloration is suggestive of cyanosis (peripheral ) and occurs due to hypoxia and low oxygen carrying capacity of blood.
    another reason is raynaud’s phenomenon.
    get color doppler done
