Diagnosed with PMR (Polymyalgia Rheumatica) 20 months ago and has gradually reduced his steroid dosage to zero?

My husband (62) was diagnosed with PMR 20 months ago and has gradually reduced his steroid dosage to zero. He is now very achey and we want to know if it is worthwhile to go back on a low (maybe 2mg) dosage of Prednisolone. We are in Spain at the moment but going back to the UK to see his consultant on the 18th of January.

  1. In my opinion yes u can also note that cases of relaps doctor will probably prescribe Methotrexate as well
    Good Luck

  2. Longer treatment with steroids may be of bad side effects on his health according to the age…
I suggest going to a near physiotherapy and hydrotherapy center to get some muscle soothing and antirheumatic treatment ..

  3. Hi
yes you can start on a low dose prednisolone definitely until you see your doctor.
but before that try using analgesics like tramadol or ibuprofen.
    thanks

  4. HI
YES YOU CAN. 2 MG IS PRETTY LOW DOSE AND HE CAN TAKE IT PRETTY SAFELY.
    DON’T WORRY

  5. hello there
if the pain is minor, why are thinking of steroids. you can give just routine pain killers for some days. prednisolone should be used only for refractory cases when the pain is unbearable
