Can an xray and MRI miss a bone tumor?

I had pain and a mild dermal in my right lower leg as shown in xray and MRI. My doctor said it was no problem and I should just take advils. It did go away but now 4 months later the pain is back at the same place. Can an xray and MRI miss a bone tumor?

  1. A bone tumor would have showed up in an xray and better still on an MRI. An MRi is very sensitive and won’t miss even the slightest abnormality. The pain may be due to the edema which may be unrelated to the bone metabolism. It may be caused by a mechanical problem secondary to hyperextension of knee joint.
