10 year old has cyst on ovary, any alternative to surgery?
Several days ago my cousin felt abdominal pain. After undergoing several tests, doctors discovered a cyst on her ovary. FYI my cousin is only 10 years old. The doctor recommend that she should undergo for surgery because his cyst is already has 10 cm diameter.
I would like to ask is there any side effects after cyst removal surgery(such as infertility or other side effect)?
Is there other alternatives to remove the cysts beside surgery?
10 cm sized ovarian cyst is a huge one and i believe it has to be removed surgically. No other medicines can cure such a large cyst. Infact, not getting it removed by surgery can cause problems later in her reproductive life.
If possible, get a laparoscopic surgery done.
Hi and welcome to question doctors.com
Large cysts and solid masses are usually removed surgically because:
Pain and risk of infection associated with ovarian torsion
Cysts may leak, with the leaked fluid causing pain, so large cysts with demonstrable leaked fluid in the abdomen may require surgery
Solid masses are never normal and require surgical exploration
A large ovarian mass will pull on pelvic ligaments and make it likely that the ovary will become twisted (called “torsion”) — which is very painful.
Other than the normal process of recovering from surgery, removing a cyst while leaving the ovary intact should cause no noticeable effect.
THERE ARE HORMONAL TABLETS TO TREAT OVARIAN CYSTS,BUT ITS DIFFICULT FOR SUCH LARGE CYTS TO RESPOND TO MEDICINES. THE HORMONAL DRUG TREATMENT ALSO MAY HAVE SOME SIDE EFFECTS CONSIDERING HER PRE-MENARCHAL AGE.
GO FOR SURGERY.
10 cms, ovarian cyst, well i dont think any other treatment modality can help. medicines can help to reduce its size to some extent. but it wont cure it completely. better to get it removed at the earliest before it causes any other complication. instead of an open abdominal surgery, a laparoscopic one will have many advantages
is there any medication for cyst of 7cm instead of surgery.
